Obsession with Books

I have been feeling guilty that I have not been attending to my blog recently but I have not been far…..also feel sorry for myself as I am still waiting for my knee replacement operation and the pain I feel some days is not very nice. I thought of myself last July I would have said yes to a cancellation I was offered and turned down. Now I regret I did this and have no one else to blame but myself.

Now to this blog…..what shall I write about .We its got to be about my books again….if the idea repels you you do not have to continue but if you are a book addict its about my obsession with books that I am in the midst of

I have always loved reading but its the owning of books etc that looms large in my life as well as reading them. Always been an avid holder of a library ticket….but because of my obsession, my library books are back on the shelves at the library and my ticket is in my purse. Most of the books I own I have sourced from the charity shops esp the two that I volunteer at.What I will be writing next shows how obsessive I have become….it started with the idea of reading or rereading the children’s classics which crept into the adult ones…..then adaptation/sequels or prequels or similar stuff. You will see what I mean in the following.

To date I have read and completed 28….only two of them being re-reads….Earth Abides by George.R.Stewart and The Help.
At the moment I have 274 books on my shelf of all genres, in all states of newness or being very tatty. Whether I will manage to read these all in the rest of my lifetime….well we will have to see. I have given my shelves a good culling so only the ones I keep are the ones I have enjoyed.
Some of my favourites from the ones I have read are…Swallows and Amazons,To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee,Pollyanna,The Quiet American and Carries War which I gave all 10/10.

Never just have one on the go at a time so the ones beside me on the sofa are Diary of a Chav…Keep it Real by Grace Dent, East of Eden by John Steinbeck which is reading OK  at the moment and Fried Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe which is taking me ages . Also pulled out are Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Wolffe,A Little Princess and Heidi’s Children which I have not started yet.

at the back of the A4 book I keep book information (yes I did say I was obsessed) I have a list of 84 titles that I look for.

Because I find it hard to think “which one I should read now” I have a pot where all the titles of the 274 on shelves are written I random pick when I need to choose. Not always happy with what I pick so do cheat and pick……only pulled of the shelf  2 times and that was “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “Mrs Dalloway which I pulled today.I also have challenges that I have found on Booktube.
Most of my books are from charity shops and the Diabetes UK shelf in my local Tesco that I give a donation to on my way out, but I do have new ones bought as presents or I have chosen from gift cards. I have also had a couple from Amazon as My daughter in Law orders them for my. These are….Earth Abides,On The Beach by Nevil Shute,Of Mice and Men, Charlottes Webb, The BellJar, Fahrenheit 451, The Giver and Greyfriars Bobby and Uncle Toms Cabin from a dear friend at Christmas.

So yes I think I am a wee bit obsessed. Bye-bye.
