More ABC’s…….G.H.AND I.

Here I am again with the alphabet of Carol…the pink-haired. I so enjoy having this platform to rabbit on and no one can interrupt.

So here I start….with G, H and I.

G

Gin…….never used to like it. I had first tried it with orange and was not impressed. One day I had walked over to where son no1 was living…..I cannot remember the reason I had done that and he offered me one with tonic in and it was lovely and I was hooked……so that has become my go-to spirit. Like whiskey with ginger age or lemonade. Not a fan of vodka.

I will be eternally grateful to an old school friend….you know who you are who sent me a surprise gift of a box of flavoured gin at the start of this lockdown business. That was a lovely thing to have done for someone. Also to Dave who introduced me to his favourite gin……Sapphire blue ….thank you one of my Christmas gifts.

G is also for “getting. old/grey hair………no one is ever happy about “getting older”.When I was 38 I decided to stop counting but I forgot the following year and I wouldn’t be able to to get away with it now as my children are older. Then there is “grey hair”.I used to have very dark brown hair…..not always cut properly. Never went to a hairdresser when young. The nearest to the hairdresser was the “Twink” perm that my mum used to insist I have every so often. In my early 30’s the dark brown started to go grey and I was “pepper and salt” for many years. When I started back to work when the children were older I had the crazy idea of going black!! a disaster that took ages to grow out…I looked like a zebra for many months. Stayed grey for many a few years then decided to go blonde….that I enjoyed until one time I couldn’t get the dye I wanted so went back to grey until after I retired and about 4 years ago decided on pink and I love the feeling it gives me. I have a new packet of pink dye ready to put back on my hair in the next few days

H

Hot pants…….come on ladies……who were gals in the ’60s who wore them. I had a pair of blue denim ones and used to trip down the street peering ahead checking to see I was still in the path as I had taken my specs off and couldn’t see where I was going.

H is also for history……a subject that I have been really interested since I left school and as I get older has become part of. My favourite eras…….Plantaganet….where the “Wake” name originates from. Tudor….even though Henry V111 was a bit of a monster, World war 1 and 2 and the sinking of the Titanic. Lived through the ’60s and that’s part of history and in these strange times with the pandemic of Covid 19, we are living through what will become part of the future children’s history lessons in the same way that we as children learned about  The Black Death.

I

…is for IPlayer….this is something else that has got me through these lockdowns. Stuff that I didn’t watch the first time around……Waterloo Rd, Doctor Who, Line of Duty, Baptiste, Silent Witness and one I just finished called A Teacher and one I am watching at the moment.Normal People. There are also programmes that I have watched……Call The Midwife, Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes. Just to name a few. Also, I stands for ice cream…my favourite…..raspberry ripple……..see you all soon.
