Still trailing through the full journals on TJ’s advice……but find there is a lot of stuff I am not prepared to share with the world. So here I am in journal 24 late in the year.
In the days before the wedding, we avidly watched the weather forecasting gales and blizzards but the day dawned dry and frost-free even though it was bitterly cold. Hubby and I got up that morning at 6am as we had a busy morning ahead of us.
Spent a couple of hours making sandwiches and plating finger food. Dave picked me up at 10.30 and we began the preparations of getting the food along to the hall, a lot of dashing about, checking to see if the flowers had arrived. It also gave me a chance to see son no1 and also the bridegroom and also the bride before the ceremony.
Son no1 was at the hall setting up the music system.
First of all, we went over the son no 1’s flat where the bridegroom has spent the night. He was beginning to get nervous. Dave and I left to go the brides to collect more food. Dave’s mum had joined us by then…then along to the hall where the flowers had arrived. They had been done by a friend of son no 1……another David….there are a lot of Davids in this family. (son number one here – I can be called by my name now LOL
Then it was me back to the house to finish getting ready. Hubby and middle son were both ready and waiting for me. We had booked a taxi to the registry office and got there a bit early.
The bridegroom and best man arrived and soon after the bride arrived looking stunning in a long burgundy dress with a white fur wrap, rosebud band in her hair which was in ringlets. The bridegroom and best man arrived looking smart and dapper in striped trousers, black frock coats, cream embroidered waistcoats, white shirt and cravat.
We all went into the wedding room, David was OK until his lovely wife to be, came in on the arm of her father when he burst into tears which set the rest of us. I had not realized what an emotional we were.
David A who had done the job with the flowers…deep red roses for the men and orchids for the ladies. Then all of in various cars to the hall. Where we all enjoyed the buffet food. Son no 1 gave an emotional speech which set the family off again.
After the speeches and the food son no1 and Dave disappeared to get ready for the entertainment…that the happy couple had requested…a performance of Nikki Nightingale and Co which was enjoyed by all. Music and dancing for the rest of the evening. Amusement with the conga as a lot of sons no 3’s worked colleagues
We had the hall until midnight so when people started to leave we had to begin the process of clearing up. A lot of food had not been eaten.
It was a wonderful day and they are still as happy and in love, as they were on that day.
Things that will stick.
1.How upset David was at the sight of his bride when she walked towards him and the tender way he looked at his bride as he said his vows.
2.Ho smart our children all looked in their outfits.
3.The hugs I got of my sons that day.
4.the main thing is a big thank you. It was lovely
