Trip to London with DPAJ productions…aka No 1 son and friend D

As some of you know I am going through my journals to jog my memory for stuff to blog about so here is one from 29th Sept 2000…Journal no 7.

A trip was organized to cheer me up. A trip up to London with son no1 and his dear friend D.I was picked up by the two of them around 1.30 pm, and away we went. Took about half to get to the outskirts of London and I was then given a tour around all the tourist spots with a commentary done in a funny”tour leader”nasally type voice. Definitely, a different way than I usually see London. We went to Madame Tussauds and The Planetarium. I was amazed at how small some members of the Royal Family were along with certain world leaders/historical figures were. You could certainly see signs of “little man syndrome” in certain people. I had my photo took with “Mel Gibson” and “Beatles”.A ride in a taxi through “The Spirit of London”If my mind serves me right it was sort of”TIME TRAVEL” from the 1900s.Then onto the Planetarium which I wasn’t sure about, but felt it was good though weird….all the sky above you made me feel a bit strange and spacey.

Afterwards(we were in there for 2 hours)we looked around souvenir shops were bought a few gifts. Looked in two shops that were 1, all Elvis and 2 all Beatles. Then a Sherlock Holes one where I bought stationery.

Then onto Soho and Old Compton Street. Had a Chinese Buffet somewhere….. the first one I think I ever visited…….then to a pub called Admiral Duncan….which was so noisy, we did not stay. Was taken with the delight of my two guides through the “red light district” and we had refreshments outside Compton Street cafe…I wander 20 years on as I write this….is it still there. Spent time people watching.

Then back to the car for the ride back to Guildford.

I had a good time….going through these journals is strange. I am getting upset and then I am smiling. All these memories Take care all and stay safe.
