My dad used to grow potatoes and flowers&#8230;.mainly &#8220;Sweet Williams&#8221;. My mum used to sell them in bunches for a bit of pocket money<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The nearest I ever got to gardening as a child was to be&nbsp; sent off into the woods to pick blackberries<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">My gardening &#8220;nightmares&#8221; I feel all started after I married hubby. When we came south to live in the first year of our marriage he got a job as a gardener\/handyman to an old couple in a village in Berkshire. As I had a job in nearby Newbury&#8230;..I never had to be involved. He was never called by his Christian name but was called &#8220;Wake&#8221; and I was &#8220;Wake&#8217;s wife.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">My gardening mishaps started a few jobs down the line when in another gardening job (see my blog post on &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/carolwake.me.uk\/index.php\/2020\/08\/20\/my-brush-with-royalty\/\">My Brush with Royalty<\/a>&#8220;)&#8230;.when I remember having to &#8220;help out&#8221; a couple of times&#8230;&#8230;..1.Fruit picking&#8230;.crawling almost on my hands and knees picking blackcurrants All her fruit bushes were under netting and I did not enjoy at all&#8230;..No 2&#8230;..Hubby had flu so the housekeeper and I were asked if we would do a little bit of weeding&#8230;and I did a whole row&#8230;unknowing I had pulled a whole row of carrots.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We had a huge garden in the next place we lived in &#8230;.in a village near Godalming. We had friends for tea one afternoon and I served a ham salad. Hubby asked me where did I get the spring onions\/scallions&#8230;&#8230;.I said &#8220;from the garden&#8221;&#8230;&#8230;.was told we he had not planted any in the garden&#8230;..I had only pulled up all his leeks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After that, I steered away from gardening until once and only once Hubby was asked to do a bit of gardening with a couple whose shop I did a few hours in and I was included to do along to do a &#8220;bit of weeding&#8221;&#8230;I hated it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">NO MORE GARDENING FOR ME.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have never been interested in gardening but over the years I have been &#8220;dragged&#8221; into it every so often.
